White Oaks Veterinary Hospital started out as the Awkerman Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Loy Awkerman and his wife, Rose, moved to Manheim in 1952 after Dr. Awkerman completed veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. They saw patients of each and every kind, with the majority of the work being cows and horses during the day, and dogs and cats in the evenings. After a year in town, they moved to our current property on Lebanon Road and converted a 1940’s-era pavilion into a small clinic. There were four major expansions and renovations to the clinic between 1963 and 1976. In 1977, Doc Awkerman transitioned to an exclusively small animal practice.

Drs. Ron and Lauren Lane purchased the practice in 1995 and renamed it White Oaks Veterinary Hospital in honor of all of the large white oak trees on the property. Other than some painting, new flooring and updating of kennels and medical equipment, the previous building was essentially unchanged for 35 years.

In March of 2011, we moved into our new facility on the same property. The building honors our agricultural heritage and our Rapho Township location with the appearance of a repurposed small stone barn as you enter the hospital through the "milk house."

Our primary mission is to deliver the best and most comprehensive general health care for your pet. We stress client education and preventative medicine. However, when your pet is ill, we are here to help you through the diagnostic process, decisions regarding the best treatment and surgical options if needed, and the recovery. Our combined 60 years of experience will guide you with compassion and honesty.
